As many of you may already know, Amy Sherman, myself and my husband Nate will be traveling to San Francisco in a few weeks to attend Slow Food Nation. Barb Jenness will also attend, bringing some of her goat cheese from Dancing Goat Creamery for the taste pavilion. Founders Brewery will also be represented in the beer section of the taste pavilion. Amy and I will be attending the National Congress on Thursday the 28th with other Slow Food leaders from around the nation - many of the leaders that we met at the Midwest Leaders conference will be attending and it will be nice to see them again. Thursday night we will be going to Come to the Table, an open-air dinner at the Slow Food Nation Victory Garden. On Friday we are signed up to attend the Food for Thought speaker series where we will be lucky enough to hear speakers such as Carlo Petrini, Michael Pollen, Vandana Shiva, Raj Patel, and Winona LaDuke just to name a few. Friday night the leaders will be able to attend the preview opening of the Slow Food Nation Taste Pavilion before it is open to the general public. On Saturday Amy and I will be helping out at the Taste of the Midwest taste workshop, which is being put together by Grace Singleton of Zingerman’s.
We are very excited to be able to attend this event and to see some West Michigan producers represented. We are hoping that we can post blog entries while we are there and we will be sure to take a lot of pictures. Perhaps we can have a slide show party when we get back.

One of the blog entries from yesterday highlighted California’s Proposal 2 - the Prevention of Farm Animal Cruelty Act, which will be on the ballot in November (click on the blog section, and scroll down to the heading titled Putting Our Votes Where Our Mouths Are: Slow Food Advocates and Prop 2 - with the picture of the pig). It is good to see that issues which are important to us are starting to take such a public place.
