Beer and Cheese

Last night our group was treated to a behind the scenes tour of Founders Brewing Company. Dave walked us through the brewing process and the history of the company. After the tour we went back to the tap room where we tasted some locally made cheeses and sampled all the beers that Founders currently has on tap: Imperial Stout, Oatmeal Stout, Centennial IPA, Pale Ale, Porter, Red's Rye, Dirty Bastard and Rubaeus (flavored with raspberries).

We had some sharp cheddar from Grassfield Farms. Lubbers Farm donated some mild cheddar, dill and marbled cheeses. Thanks, Karen!

Barb Jenness brought some cheeses from her Dancing Goat Creamery. We had several different types of goat cheese to try (plain, cracked pepper, herbed, red pepper). She also had some chocolate "truffles" made with goat cheese. There was also some feta made from cow's milk marinated in olive oil and a camembert type cheese which Barb has recently started making. Good stuff!

Barb's cheese has been selected by Slow Food Nation to be in its Hall of Taste. Congrats, Barb! A link to the DogWood Farm web site has been added to this blog.
